A horrific bike accident late Wednesday night left four youths seriously injured on Kennel South Road, near the canal stretch connecting Sealdah and Chingrihata. The crash, which occurred around 11:40 pm, involved two motorcycles in a head-on collision and highlighted the growing menace of reckless driving on city roads.
Eyewitnesses reported that a black motorcycle carrying three helmetless youths was speeding recklessly from the Sealdah side. The trio, reportedly in their early twenties, showed no regard for traffic norms or personal safety. Simultaneously, a food delivery boy on another motorcycle was heading towards Sealdah from Chingrihata.
The two bikes collided violently, throwing all four individuals off their vehicles. The impact was so severe that they landed several feet away from the crash site. Local residents and passersby rushed to help and called emergency services immediately.
All four injured individuals were rushed to a government hospital in Kolkata. While their injuries were described as serious, hospital authorities stated that their conditions were stable as of Thursday morning. The identities of the victims have not been officially released.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and took custody of both motorcycles. An officer confirmed that a case of rash and negligent driving has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine if any of the riders were under the influence.
The accident once again underlines the urgent need for helmet enforcement and road discipline, especially among young riders in the city. Authorities have promised stricter late-night patrols along vulnerable road stretches like Kennel South Road.
